Last night after we went to bed they had the fireworks they had canceled on the 4th of July. We watched from our windows, it was a great display!
Up and off to church across the street at the Salvation Army location for the 11pm services. We felt quite welcomed and will plan to attend next week as well. We sat behind a young couple with 4 children, the youngest being just 10 days old! He will be dedicated next week with a pancake breakfast to follow.
After church we had a quick lunch and headed to the bridge to try to catch the elusive salmon! Not even a bit so after we got tired we went back and called Nic to see if he will take us to a place that is supposed to be so great for fishing. We made a deal for him to take us out there, to Herring Cove. The deal was, he would take us out there, get us set up and then leave us and return after he took some other clients on a nature drive. Sounded good to us! This was the rock path we came down to head to the mouth of the river. While two people got salmon on, one lost theirs and the other did manage to bring it in. We have decided our fishing days are done. We enjoyed the views along the shore and all the bald eagles soaring over head and even fighting each other in the trees. About
the time we were finished Nic and the people he was taking on a “nature tour” arrived. They are from southeast Texas and also happy to get out of the heat in Texas. We left with them and Nic took us up the river and on a couple other different roads to look for bears, but we didn’t see any. We drove to the end of the road south and saw the hydropower plant that supplies a good deal of the energy for Ketchikan. Here we are at Rainbow Falls. We had a nice drive but
we never did see any bears. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable and when we got back we gave our poles and gear to Nic. He said he has a program for kids to learn how to fish, etc. I am not sure he does but we also don’t want to pay to haul the poles home when our fishing days are over. My mistake… I forgot “fishing” is not fun, only catching is fun. I so wanted John to catch a fish and experience that. Oh well, maybe we better try one of those deep sea fishing trips!!!
