Today’s the day Mom came up to Ketchikan. Her flight was delayed @SFO so she will miss the Seattle connection to Ketchikan. We got her on another flight and she will now arrive here, our time, 7:51pm. I am sure she will be exhausted but the good news is we can whisk her here immediately by taxi and she can go right to bed if she wants to.
We went to the Pioneer Cafe for lunch, well John had a second breakfast and I had lunch, then we did a little shopping. I am preparing a “birthday goodie box” to send to my sister since I won’t see her on her birthday. We also did all our laundry including linens so that took some time in the small washer and dryer (which we are grateful to have in the apt). A stop at the library concluded the morning and early afternoon errands.
We keep coming back to check on Mom’s flights and so far so good, after the initial change! I am just nervous about getting to the airport on time and everything so we left pretty early to be sure were made the ferry on time. There was a big house fire we saw up in the mountains, the ferry changed their timing to bring a man from the airport (a worker there) to be sure he got his dog out of his house that was burning. We heard later he did get his dog out. There was a lot of smoke, I hope his house was not totally destroyed.
Anyway it all went very smoothly for mom and her flight was even 10 minutes early, I should say her “rescheduled” flight! My mom is an amazing woman. At 91 she flies off to Alaska all by herself to meet us here. I am so happy she is here!!! We had a little snack, glass of wine and talked until about “now” and Mom is ready for bed. It has been a long day for her since she got up at 5am her time. Tomorrow we will start showing her around.
